May Day Traditions

We heard about the tradition of handing out homemade flower baskets to neighbors on May Day and we thought it was perfect way to get to know more neighbors. I am not "crafty" by nature ,even this simple looking task took some effort on my part. I made the first one while the girls were at school, so I could scream and throw things when I got frustrated. Then we finished them up together and actually had a blast. Handing them out to the people on our street was our plan as i could only bring myself to make 12, but that plan was thwarted when dogs came after us. I really think these dogs were from Satan himself because I had prayed for each of the houses on our street for weeks leading up to this in hopes to meet them and connect with them. I feel really strongly that God wants me to concentrate on my neighborhood alone right now. Mostly by being a person they know cares about them and maybe one day being able to share Christ with them. So with that I was really discouraged when dogs I had never seen ( because I take my morning walk down this street every day) came out of yards unleashed! We did however do half our street and then we just went to the side streets and took the last 6 to random houses. We had to leave only a few on doors with out an answer but we did meet a lot of new people. And everyone was genuinely delighted to have the girls give them flowers. Tonight while working in the yard a sweet woman brought us a thank you note and bottle of red to say thank you because she had received the flowers on her door when she got home from work and they made her day. The girls were beaming with pride. " it worked Mom" Gwen said, " We got to meet someone else new!" So I'm ending this blog with this , My God is really really cool and I know that lady walking over was a confirmation that obeying Him just rocks!

Sunnykins,
I left flowers for friends when I was in high school on May 1st, as well as as a child--usually daffodils, and this year I left some potted gerber daisies. Life looks wonderful with you beach bums.
Love to all the Reeds,
Gayle

That is so awesome! The dog scene gives so much to the story. Ain't that so true!!! Whenever God gives us flowers, Satan will try to run us down with dogs!!!
